About
I’m currently interim professor for media anthropology at Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich. In the last few years, I’ve conducted research on the online politics of Indian Muslims as a member of the ERC project “For Digital Dignity” (LMU Munich, Sahana Udupa) and the VW project “The Populism of the Precarious” (FU Berlin, Jürgen Schaflechner).
My first book was on the mediation of audio-visual testimonies through independent documentary film practice in the context of the Kashmir Conflict (published 2019 in German with “Transcript” under the title “Mobilität und Zeugenschaft: Unabhängige Dokumentarfilmpraktiken und der Kaschmirkonflikt”).I also translate Hindi poetry (Muktibodh und andere moderne Hindi Dichter; Draupadi Verlag 2020) and I have worked as a University Lecturer of Hindi at the University of Leipzig.
Together with Jürgen Schaflechner, I’m Co-Editor-in-Chief of the hybrid journal “Dastavezi: The Audio-Visual South Asia.” (Dastavezi | the Audio-Visual South Asia) and I’m collectively producing and co-directing independent documentary films that deal with culture, religion, and politics in Global South Asia.
